Appreciating the Light

July 22, 2014 (my first attempt to write seriously).

Psalms 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

I asked my friend what this verse means to her, she said, “Para sakin… Isa siyang importanteng verse kasi binibigyan niya ako ng confidence sa world na ‘to, to be a confident woman or man of God kasi ginawa niya ako and special ako, ganon.”

Confidence is what builds up a human. In life, we always need confidence. Let’s all admit it, everyday we face new challenges and new opportunities. And how are we able to grab it? Simply because we have confidence. That confidence we have also has its roots, and it is found in the verse stated above. Basically, our confidence is strong if we know that we are like this and like that. Some people’s confidence depends on how they look, but remember what 1 Peter 3:3-4 says:”Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” God’s love is unconditional. It is an agape love — selfless and limitless — He loves us even if we are imperfect.

Psalms 139:14 doesn’t deal only with our physical body but also with our emotions. As we all know, the human body is the most complex and unique creation in this world. From our head, down to our toes, we are molded perfectly by His hands. Every aspect of the body, down to the tiniest microscopic cell, reveals that it is fearfully and wonderfully made. And because we truly are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’, we should use this body to please Him. For it is said in the Bible that we should offer our bodies as living sacrifices, which are holy and pleasing unto Him. Yes, many people will judge you. They will say that you are crazy, and doing this for nothing. But no, each and every single thing we do is counted. Counted in the eyes of the Beholder. And in the end, when we finally meet the God who created blue skies, beautiful night lights, sunsets and sunrise, and the God who created me and you, and everything else that is placed in this world… I assure you, He will welcome you with a smile while saying, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’.

I want to ask you one thing, “Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?” Think about the answer, reflect for awhile. See? Life is a big game, they say, so play it. But in what way will you play it? Positively, of course. And because you are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’, you should take your leaps higher, and make your decisions wiser. If you fall, just remember that God will take away your hurt, and give you the greatest strength if you believe. Just believe and pray. The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promises. He has plans for you. Plans to prosper and not to harm you, indeed. You may be lost for awhile but God will find you… He will always look for you, and will surely pick you up. He will never let go of your hand even if yours is already slipping away. When you feel like the world is turning you down or when everyone is turning their backs on you, look up and see the beauty and wonders that He made; the treasures, adventures, and path that He has prepared for you. You might be thinking that everything’s starting to fall apart and not going the way you wanted it to be, but no, everything’s just perfect. Remember that everything that happens is written. Everything you experience is written on your story, your story that is authored by Him. It may not be pleasing to your eyes but things happen just the way He wanted it to. Again, you should believe.

Read Psalms 139:14 again, and think about the good things He has done for you. Think about how you surpassed the trials that has gone your way. You may not know it, but you are already living that verse up. Keep it in your mind: ‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made’ — and because you are made like that, you should be more confident with yourself; regardless of the way you look, your height and weight, or even the way other people see you. Just how the saying goes, ‘be yourself’. God knows you better than they do. You can be surrounded by labels but that doesn’t define you. What defines you is what you choose to do, say, and live by.

You might be asking, “How can I really be ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’?” Dear, you have doubts. Get rid of it. The moment you knew who saved you from the darkness, and who loved you at your darkest part, that’s the time when you became fearfully and wonderfully made. And now, even if the wind is strong, and the light is slowly fading, know that He is God. Appreciate the light that He gave you, and follow the light that shines brightly for you. He will love you no matter what. He will protect and guide you, you just have to be fearless.

You’re wonderful. God bless!

Of everything in between,
Danielle. x
